The M1 processor really does run cooler than the older versions of the Air. The battery life is also quite extensive – much more than 4 hours.
I can run older software with the help of Rosetta, which downloads with a prompt when I first open the old software. Rosetta limits the old software to running on just a single processor, so execution is not faster. Running more than one instance of the same software can cause Rosetta to become confused, with corruption of the duplicate outputs. Perhaps future software updates will overcome these limitations of Rosetta.
